About
About Rootline Systems
Field Intelligence for Technical Professionals.
Rootline Systems is a knowledge platform for planners, designers, engineers, project managers, and problem-solvers working in complex environments.
It was created from a simple observation:
Across the planning and design professions, valuable lessons are constantly being learned—but too often they remain trapped inside project folders, meeting notes, personal hard drives, and institutional memory.
Rootline exists to capture those lessons, organize them into practical systems, and make them accessible to the people doing the work.
From Experience to Application
The best knowledge is tested knowledge.
Rootline draws from real projects, field experience, technical practice, and continuous professional development across planning, infrastructure, military installations, capital projects, GIS, project management, and organizational systems.
The goal is not theory for theory's sake.
The goal is to provide practitioners with tools, methods, templates, and frameworks that can be applied immediately.
Every resource within Rootline is designed to answer a simple question:
How can this help someone do better work tomorrow?
The Rootline Knowledge Operating System
Rootline is organized as a growing knowledge ecosystem designed to transform experience into actionable guidance.
Key components include:
Methods
Practical frameworks and operating principles that explain how work gets done.
Field Notes
Case studies, observations, lessons learned, and project insights drawn from practice.
Briefs
Research, references, and foundational concepts that provide context and deeper understanding.
Field Sheets
Quick-reference tools designed for immediate use in the field or office.
Field Guides
Comprehensive manuals that combine methods, templates, examples, and implementation guidance.
Tools
Templates, calculators, generators, mapping resources, and other utilities that help practitioners work more effectively.
A Long-Term Project
Rootline is being built as a durable professional resource.
Not a content feed.
Not a collection of disconnected downloads.
A system.
One that grows over time through accumulated experience, documented lessons, tested methods, and practical tools.
The objective is simple:
To help practitioners move from uncertainty to clarity, from information to action, and from isolated knowledge to shared understanding.
Behind Rootline
Rootline Systems was founded by Ben Warsinske, AICP, a federal planner and project manager with nearly two decades of experience supporting military installations, federal agencies, infrastructure programs, and complex planning efforts.
Throughout his career, Ben has worked across planning, design, GIS, visualization, project delivery, facilitation, and organizational systems—often serving as the bridge between technical specialists, decision-makers, and project teams.
Rootline serves as a place to document those lessons, develop new tools, and contribute practical knowledge back to the professions that made them possible.
Learn continuously. Build useful things. Leave better maps for those who follow.
